Cup bid crashes
Parramatta have continued their inconsistent path through the Toyota Cup, this time losing to South Sydney 38-22.
The Eels entered Saturday night's encounter with the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium as hot favourites.
They were on 23 points and the lowly Rabbitohs on 15 and had players already blooded in the NRL.
Those NRL players, five-eighth Kris Kreating and giant winger cum backrower, did their bit.
Both scored tries but the Eels defence was no match for a Souths that crossed for seven four-pointers.
A win over the lowly-placed Manly is a must this weekend.
One win, one loss
The Wenty Leagues Wheelkings have split their latest road trip, beating the Adelaide Thunder 90-44 and losing 82-54 to reigning premiers, the Perth Wheelcats.
Australian junior and senior representative Bill Latham was left with the lion's share of the workload in the paint, with former Dutch Paralympian Koen Jansens and Australian representative Jeremy Van Asperen missing for personal reasons.
Latham had solid support from Australian representative Craig Cannane and Australian Paralympians Liesl Tesch and Kylie Gauci but the under-strength Wheelkings could not compete against a full-strength Wheelcats' line-up. The Wheelkings host the Wheelcats at the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre 11am on Sunday.
Pair cash in
It was only appropriate that Merrylands should have share of the cash when they hosted their inaugural junior pairs title on Friday.
There were 31 pairs from 22 clubs competing and Merrylands' M. McHugh teamed with The Hills' B. Morgan to take the $500 first prize.
