The Parramatta Wildcats ended their losing streak with double-header wins against the Hills District Hornets on Saturday night at the Hills Basketball Stadium.
The Wildcat women won 59-6 and the men 114-111 in round 17 of the Waratah Australian Basketball League.
The Hornets women may be in a battle with the Norths Bears for the wooden spoon but proved to be tough opponents for the Wildcats, who were on a three-game losing streak.
The home team looked a chance in the third quarter but key Wildcats Lauren Paterson, Sophie Kelman and Sarah Kelman kept their team in front through the tight stages, then powered it home.
The men's game was an up-tempo, high-energy shoot-out and though the Wildcats' finals hopes are gone, they have endangered the Hornets' playoff chances.
The Wildcats had grabbed a last-second win over the Hornets in the first round and made almost an identical escape this time.
Wildcats captain/coach Terrance Rone was the team's hero in both games, hitting the key long-range three-pointer.
Parramatta host the highly-ranked Bankstown Bruins on Saturday night at Auburn Basketball Stadium.
The women will be tipping off at 4pm and the men at 6pm.
