Holroyd Goannas hosted leaders, the UTS Bats in the Australian Football Sydney second-division competition on Saturday.
This was the game in which the Goannas would test themselves against the best.
The Goannas passed the test with flying colours in the first quarter; in fact, it seemed they were the ones who would deliver a football lesson.
They were in front from the start and went to the first break leading 5.0.30 to 3.2.20.
From there the Bats delivered all the lessons, however. They took control, dominated and won 22.10.142 to 7.8.50.
So it's back to the drawing board for the Goannas. Best players were Brett Rizzo, Shaun Costello, Brett Harland, Sireli Fifita, Ben Dyhrberg and Tim Barton and Harland kicked four goals.
A similar lesson was delivered in reserve grade by league-leaders the Bats. The Goannas had five players backing up from second division and were beaten 18.15.123 to 8.5.53.
Best players were Kristan Carville, Grant Nicholson, Jack Southurst, Fernando Lobendahn, Scott Hudson and Dane Ramsay and Matthew MacDonald kicked four goals.
The Goannas have the bye this weekend.
