Pop star RickiLee Coulter is excited to be working with Westmead scientists as the face of the Jeans for Genes campaign.
Ms Coulter approached the Jeans for Genes team because of the "amazing work'' they do at the Children's Medical Research Institute, which receives all money raised from the annual campaign.
"I've worked with these guys [Jeans for Genes] for a couple of years now and even back when I was in high school I used to see the campaigns and I always supported it,'' Ms Coulter said.
"These guys are fantastic they're so passionate and so amazing at what they do.''
Ms Coulter toured the CMRI at Westmead last Tuesday to get a first-hand look at the scientists' work.
In one of the laboratories Ms Coulter was surprised to see live eight-day old mice embryos, which are used for research into "fate mapping''.
Before the tour of the facility, Ms Coulter said: "[As] I'm getting behind this I want to know as much as I can so I can do this properly.
"I want to speak with the scientists and find out what they do and how they're progressing and how close they are to things.''
Miss Coulter said she wasn't a celebrity who only wanted to put their face to something.
"You have to do it for the right reasons because you want to,'' she said.
"I'm getting behind this because I love the people I've worked with over the last few years within the organisation and I love what they're doing. I love their campaign and I just love the whole idea of what these guys are about.''
Miss Coulter has already raised $100,000 for the Jeans for Genes campaign, which includes profits from a nude photo shoot.
"I took my clothes off and we auctioned off photos to raise money and all the money raised goes straight back into this institute and the scientists. It helps these guys come up with treatments and cures and preventions and care. Being in the public eye, if I've got some power to draw attention to something so amazing, [then] that's what I'm here to do.''
Jeans for Genes is on Friday, August 1.
