I finally saw it on television - Darren's music video for his new song, On the Verge of Something Wonderful,on Video Hits on Saturday morning.
I always considered myself to have some sort of Darren Hayes/Savage Garden intuition when it came to hearing their songs on radio or TV, but over the past week or so, I hadn't heard the song away from his website and MySpace site.
I get a huge rush out of hearing his songs on the radio and still squeal like a teenage girl when it happens - it's just so exciting.
There's something special about those few minutes his song is being played - and Saturday morning was no different.
See the weekend before last, I received an email from Video Hits saying they'd be playing Darren's new clip.
I tuned in on both days, sound turned up in case my family were making too much noise, but I must have missed it by minutes because my dad saw it. I did not.
But on Saturday, while cooking an egg on the stove, I heard the first few seconds of the song and shrieking, I ran into the lounge room, turned the volume up and sat there revelling in Darren's brilliant-as-always vocals.
I think the egg got thrown across the stove.
It was such an exciting moment to see his songs being played by someone other than his fans.
It's about time!
In the Savage Garden days, their songs were played so much I was on a constant high.
When Truly Madly Deeply was released, I remember tuning into one radio station as I was driving with mum. I accidentally bumped the tuner and it flicked to the next station - and it too was playing Truly Madly Deeply. And so was another - three stations at once.
I don't remember complaining about popular music back then.
Yet much of Darren's solo material is ignored. This has to change!
While different from Savage Garden, Darren's new songs are beautifully crafted with the same heart-felt and moving lyrics he has always produced. If not more personal.
And the sound of his voice has the ability to make all things well.
Of course, fans of his already know this but for some stupid reason the same ridiculous music continues to be played on radio - even if I liked those songs, I wouldn't have to buy the singles.
All I'd have to do was switch from station to station all day listening to the songs virtually on repeat.
What about Darren? Play On the Verge of Something Wonderful! Now!
Darren, who is now an 'indie' artist with his own label Powdered Sugar, has already put up three songs from his coming album on his official website. There are snippets of the songs on his MySpace site.
I think he did it so hyped-up fans like myself don't get restless waiting for the album due for release on August 20.
He's even teased us by putting 30 second samples of all 25 songs on barnesandnoble.com.
So the next time you hear a Darren Hayes song on the radio, or on television, and hear the sounds of cries of joy, I might be close by.
Or maybe it's one of his other loyal fans.
